Wedding gowns of the early 1940s were much less elaborate than they had ever been before, as WWII affected the economies of women on both sides of 'The Pond'. Rationing was much more severe in Europe than in America, and women had to be rather inventive about every detail of their wedding - from the dress to the cake. Designed in a sheer dotted Swiss fabric (ivory dots on white), this gown has a lighter character than a satin version, but its every bit as beautiful. A modified bateau neckline in embroidered lace tulle, the bodice is gathered into a wide, fitted waist, then released into soft folds at the skirt, extending to a chapel length train. Full, puffed sleeves have a buttoned, lace, pointed cuff. Closes down the back with twenty one delicate mother of pearl buttons and loops. We're including the gown's white bias cut slip and original tulle and wax flower wired headpiece, though the slip has discoloration under the arms, and dark spots at the rear hem, and the headpiece is damaged. The gown itself has a repair at the hem on the left side, otherwise in excellent condition. Gown measures: bust 35", waist 25", hip full, shoulder seam to seam 13", sleeve to point 27", length in front 53", train an additional 36". sold
