1970s Ivory Jersey Wedding Gown with Veil

Even at the height of the feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s, women still yearned for a white wedding. Even Yoko Ono wore a white mini dress with her white floppy hat, knee socks and sneakers before she and John Lennon embarked on their two week 'bed in' honeymoon at the Amsterdam Hilton.  By the mid 1970s, styles for wedding attire had yielded to a softer, sensual, more fluid drape in wedding gowns, free from boning or crinolines, emphasizing the body beneath the dress. This ivory poly jersey wedding dress defines that look.  The bodice has an empire waist with a squared neckline overlaid with ivory lace across the décolleté, trimmed with a floral appliqué at the neck, empire waist, around the arm opening and on the hem. The appliqué is also strewn across the front of the gown's skirt. A back zipper closure runs from neck to waist, with the train gently gathered at the waist, cascading to a semi-chapel length of 78" from the neck or about 2 feet longer than the front. The skirt of the dress is lined, the bodice is unlined. The fingertip length tulle veil is edged in the same floral appliqué as trims the gown, with a simple 6" long band that secures to the head with a comb or pins. The gown measures: bust 33", empire waist of 25" (with 11" seam to seam in back, 14" seam to seam across front), hip to 45",shoulder to shoulder in back (excluding trim) 13",  length in front 55" reaching to 79" in back. Made by Bridal Originals, both the gown and the veil are in excellent condition.  sold
