1970s Norman Norell Navy and Red Wool Knit Suit

We're offering this stunning Norell suit with the caveat that it has some issues - namely a hole in the sleeve and scrapes on the collar of the jacket, and being a jersey knit fabric - they are difficult to repair to an undetectable state. Some of the damage has been professionally rewoven, however a few remain. That said, the paneled skirt is in excellent condition. From Norell's  collection of 1970-1971, below is a photo of this suit from Sarah Tomerlin Lee's book, American Fashion, in which Norell introduced his version of apparel separates by pairing the jacket with ivory pants and blouse. The softly tailored jacket is navy with a blue-red collar and cuff (actually more blue red than is showing in our photos below, which make the red look slightly orange), is lined in ivory china silk and closes with a hidden covered snap at the waist, and has two patch pockets at the hip.  The skirt is fashioned from panels of alternating red and navy wool fabric softly gathered into a wide navy waistband, has an invisible zipper closure, is unlined and has an unfinished hem. Bearing a Norman Norell for I.Magnin label, the jacket measures 36", waist 34", hip 36",  shoulder 15", sleeve 24", length 26".  Skirt measures waist 27", length 26" with 4" of hem.   $445
