1980s James Galanos Blue Wool Suit

 

 

James Galanos once said of himself, 'I'm the last of the dinosaurs', referring to haute couture, and the fact that he is the last of the great American couturiers. Galanos was meticulous almost to the point of obsession in the design and execution of this creations, using the finest quality fabrics and an incomparable attention to detail to create clothes that were truly works of art. This suit is fashioned in a fine wool crepe, the jacket having alternating stripes of reversed herringbone patterns with a solid navy stripe,  has a fitted cut in a modified mandarin style, with an asymmetrical button closure, and u shaped pockets set slightly lower on the breast.  The edges of the jacket and pockets are bound in a navy, with an inverted vee notch at the center back hem. The skirt is a wrap style in solid navy fine wool crepe, with a pair of tucks at the hip and bar and snap closures at the waistband. Both pieces are lined in navy silk and are in flawless, unworn condition with tags attached. Jacket bust measures 36", waist 30", hip 38", shoulder 15.5", sleeve 23", total length 22.3". Skirt waist measures 26", hip 36",length 23.5".$335
