First a word about
condition before you read further - the pants have three small holes
(the largest is probably no larger than 5 cm) at the right knee and
another pinhole at the left one, and one more hole at the waistband near
the button - but because of the print, the ones on the legs defy
detection. As a matter of fact, we only noticed them after we wore the
outfit to a birthday party in Tijuana and got stuck in border traffic,
literally contemplating our knees in the back seat of a car for three
hours. There is probably enough fabric in the generous hems (2" at the
hem on both the tunic and the pants) to patch if you don't want to
spring for reweaving and you just can't leave them alone (that's what we
suggest). Now on to why we love this outfit. It's quintessential Saint
Laurent from the Seventies. In a lightweight, comfortable wool challis
(did we mention it was a warm, sultry afternoon Tijuana?), the
shirt style tunic is a stylized floral print in rusty orange, yellow
gold, cornflower blue with a smidge of beige - on a dark french blue
background. It has a deep four button placket at the neckline, is eased
through the front and back shoulder yokes, and has a pert little
gathered shoulder with a full cut sleeve, a buttoned barrel cuff, and
two oversized patch pockets, and 8" vents at either hip. Adorable.
The pants are cut in a coordinated ethnic print in the same colors and
fabric. They are flat front with a fly zipper, a high waist with a bar
and hook at the band and wide, straight legs. Both pieces are unlined.
The shirt measures 36" at the bust, waist and hip, 13.5" at the
shoulder, 24" sleeve and 27" long. The pants measure 27" at the
waist, 40" at the hip, the rise is 13.5" and the inseam is 32", outseam
43.5", circumference of the leg at thigh is 24". $275
