1970s Givenchy Cotton Halter Top and Maxi Skirt

The trouble with many halter tops (both vintage and modern) is what has become our #1 peeve - they show too much skin.  Call us old-fashioned, but we believe a skimpy little halter looks cute only on a pre-adolescent body. After a girl starts developing, the look starts teetering toward the obscene. But that's just our opinion.  And believe us, we've got the teeny boobs to pull off a skimpy halter if we thought differently. So you can imagine our immense pleasure with this tastefully structured little number. In a midweight madras woven cotton/poly matelasse, the fabric has substantial body and hangs beautifully.  The halter has a modestly cut neck with hooks at the back of the neck, offers ample coverage at the sides of the bust, and tapers to a pair of extra long ties which wrap around and over the waist of the top. The maxi skirt has hidden vertical inseam pockets that sit at about the hipbone on either side - slightly center front. The skirt's zipper closure sits to the left of center over the left bum cheek.  The skirt is gently eased into a waist band with hook and eye closures on the band above the zipper.   Halter top is 21" long from the neck to the hem and is best on a modern size 4-6 with about a 34-35B bust. The skirt measures 25" at the waist,  38" at the hip, and 39.5" in length. Carrying Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique labels, both pieces are lined in saffron hued china silk, and are in excellent condition.  $295
