1970s Green Checked Seersucker Skort

We first learned about Talbots in the late 1970s, because a co-worker bought her (very traditionally styled) clothing from their mail order catalog. The wave of the preppy style was riding high and heavy, and everyone wanted to look like they hailed from Harvard or Bryn Mawr. Talbots did have an advantage over other Preppy resources in that they also carried designer lines of Preppy clothes, so sometimes you could find things that were actually wearable. Like this cheery little green and white checked seersucker skort. We're not  sure if this would have been considered a tennis skirt in The Official Preppy Handbook, but out West, we called it a 'skort' - a combination skirt and short.  In this case,  the shorts are concealed beneath a modified wrap skirt. Decorative buttoned tabs at the hip give it the look of a kilt, with a  zipper closure in the back and a small patch pocket on the derriere. Made by Austin Hill for The Talbots, it measures 25" at the waist, 37" at the hip, and 18" long, and is in excellent condition.  $65
