1980s Hand Painted Silk Tunic

We love tunics - loved them in the seventies with jeans and loved them in the eighties with skinny pants. What we DON'T  love, and what nearly ruined the chic-ness of tunics was leggings. What started out (and worked) as a punk anti-fashion statement had quickly deteriorated into sleaze-wear by the time middle America got into it. Anything long and tunic-y - t-shirts, sweaters, oversized shirts - was thrown over leggings, and it mostly was not a good thing. We know leggings are still lurking out there, because sadly, we still see women 'wearing' them. This piece restores our faith in tunic chic. Silk crepe de chine is hand printed in a tie dyed design in shades running from a deep - almost black - midnight blue to charcoal gray and ivory. An inverted triangle shape with a three quarter length kimono sleeve, padded shoulder, and a body that tapers to a split and tied hem. Sultry and fabulous.  Wear it with skinny-skinny, dark-dark jeans; extra long tapered leg silk pants (like Halston did); vintage Issey Miyake tapered pants, or wear it as a dress, but DO NOT wear it with leggings. Bust to 48", hip 42", sleeve (center back to end of sleeve) 23", length 34". Hand dyed by fiber artist, Susan D'Vincent, it's a beautiful work of art, in excellent condition. $165
