Collectors of vintage Rudi Gernreich know that his work was about much more than the topless swimsuit which gave his name notoriety. Gernreich trained as a dancer before turning his eye to fashion, and his designs always reflected the dancer's love of motion, with clothes that didn't inhibit the body's freedom of movement. Beyond that topless suit, his innovative knitted swimsuit designs of the 1950s and his 'no-bra' bra in the mid 1960s, freed women's bodies and forever changed the way women looked in their clothing. This jacket is a more tailored piece for Gernreich, yet the cut is still easy and comfortable. Tan fabric feels like a wool and cashmere blend - soft like flannel. Styled with a pair of angled welted pockets just below the waist, a turned back cuff on the sleeve, the jacket sports a double vented rear - a touch that reflects the concept of unisex dressing, which Gernreich also pioneered. Bust/hip 38", shoulder 15", sleeve 22", length 24". Fully lined, it also carries an Apropos boutique label. Three pale yellow spots - one below the left pocket, one on the right shoulder and the last on the right sleeve- otherwise in excellent condition and a beautiful example of Gernreich's work. $165
