1970s Sonia Rykiel Black Wool Tunic

Sonia Rykiel is reknowned for her knitwear.  But her designs of the 1970s were especially distinctive and innovative. One look at this tunic and you can see why.  A long black wool knit tunic sweater, it has several unique Rykiel details:  First is an opening at the seam of each hip, to enable you to slip your hands into your pant pocket without hiking the sweater up.  Second is an elongated  ribbed cuff on the modified leg-o-mutton sleeve.  Details like a single breast pocket and an ivory striped border at the hem of the sweater seem almost mundane in comparison, but each component serves to make the whole thing great. If one were a brave soul, this would also look great worn as a short dress with black tights (bearing in mind the slits at the hip).
