One time, before we realized that it works better when you're not wearing one designer head to toe, we were searching for an Alaia top to 'match' our black Alaia pants. Miraculously, we found a black Alaia bodysuit that was perfect, but, in our obsessiveness, worried that it might not be just the right shade of black. The sales woman, bless her heart, clearly exasperated at our apparent ignorance over our serendipitous find, simply thrust the hanger toward us and said, "Honey, Alaia is Alaia is Alaia." Meaning, "It's Alaia, stupid. Alaia is always perfect." Those words stuck with us. She was right of course, and we couldn't agree more. So now that the 1980s are back in full swing fashion-wise, we think these stirrup pants, in a bottle green stretchy wool knit, are a must-have. Trying to photograph these on a dress form does hideous injustice to the incredible design. The high, wide waistband is straight stitched to achieve a modified shirred effect, with belt loops placed at the side front and back. Gently pleated in front, the bum is a masterpiece of molded contour seaming, for which Alaia is unsurpassed. Tapered leg ends with a stirrup at the foot. The seaming fabulously molds the bum, so show it off. A bodysuit and maybe a soft silk over blouse and short Danuad boots. Bearing in mind this is a stretchy knit, the flat measurements are: waist 26", hip 38", rise 13", inseam 31" (to stirrup seam at foot), total length 44". Excellent condition. $135
