1960s Mr. John Brown Velour Bowler Hat

John Piocelle started designing millinery under the Mr. John label in 1948, and at his peak was producing 16,000 every year. Mr. John's hats reflected his audacious personality - and were enormously popular until his retirement in 1970.  Velour bowlers  characterized the mannish hats of the late Sixties, introduced by Christian Dior to wear with tailored suits. This version, by Mr. John Young Elements, is fashioned in a French dark brown velour, trimmed at the edge and underside of the brim in a cafe au lait jersey with a taupey-bronze grosgrain ribbon tacked at the base of the crown with a brass stud and also crisscrossed at the peak of the crown. The circumference of the crown at the base is 22", the brim is 1 3/4" inch wide. Except for a couple of pinholes in the jersey on the underside of the brim, and a mark on the end of the grosgrain ribbon,  it is in excellent condition.  $105
