1960s Donald Brooks Seal Fur Coat

The enormously deep collar, - to wear flat over the shoulder or up around the neck - gives this coat a fabulously mod vibe we love and which is wonderfully accentuated by the choice of fur in the design.  Glossy brown hair seal, a very short fur with a subtle spotted pattern, is cut in a double breasted and belted modified trench style.  It has buttoned half bands at the sleeve cuff, four belt loops and vertical front hip pockets. Made by Donald Brooks for Michael Forrest furrier, it does have thinning along some of the edges - most noticeably in front where the belt has rubbed, at the edge of the pocket and on the belt buckle, again from rubbing, as well as a few scattered thin spots - the worst being on the left shoulder and on the collar (close-ups below). In our humble opinion, the battle scars only add to the character, and it's still a gorgeous coat, in an unusual fur that you really don't see any more.  Lined in brown satin, with the former owner's initials embroidered in brown thread. Sized for a modern 8 to 10, with a bust measurement of  38", hip to 44", shoulder 18", sleeve 24", length 38".   $575
