We'll be the first to admit that cameos have never been our
thing. That is, until we laid eyes upon this enchanting beauty.
First, we love the cameo itself - a profile of a Bacchante, in Greek
mythology, a female devotee of Bacchus, the god of wine and celebration
- right up our ally. Beautifully carved shell in high relief with
exquisite three dimensional detail, this Bacchante displays the
traditional grapes and grape leaves in her hair, and pearls at her neck.
The second thing that makes this cameo a winner is the size - it's BIG
- 1 5/8" long by about 1 1/4" wide - and really makes a statement pinned
at the throat over a pussy cat bow blouse. Set in a rolled gold oval
setting which shows very minor wear on the edge, the cameo itself is in
excellent condition. $265
