The thought of traveling abroad today pretty much just scares the
hell out of us. But if we could go back in time 50 or 60 years,
we'd undoubtedly have been globe-hopping fools who probably never stayed
at home. Oh what a difference a half century makes. We have been trying
to imagine the travel route that this unique charm bracelet is a memento
of. With Markkas from Finland, penny and half-penny coins from the
UK, and what appear to be penny coins from both Pakistan and the
Philippines, we're thinking it was probably a hell of a trip. All the
coins have mint dates in the years 1960, 1962 and 1963 and
dangle from a brass double link chain,. The
bracelet also has a couple of charms that look to us like sealing wax
stamps - one bell shaped with a Pakistani coin soldered to the bottom, the other with an
opposing pair of Finland Markkas soldered on. The largest coin is
a British one penny coin dated 1963, prong set in a round setting.
The perfect charm bracelet for a child of the early Sixties, when the
Orient Express route was still a pretty safe adventure. $245
