1940s Chinese Red Rayon Robe

.

A Chinese red embroidered rayon robe (too beautiful to be called a 'house coat'), the line is pure Forties - a long, lean wrap style with two decorative frog closures; a lightly padded shoulder and a deep sleeve cuff. Two slanted pockets at the hip, with  trapunto stitching on the pocket welt, colloar and on the cuff of the sleeve. Made in Shanghai for Peony, it measures 38" at the bust, 40" at the hip, 16" across the shoulder, 24" sleeve and 54" in length. There are a couple of stains on the candy red satin lining and a faint dark smudge across the back shoulder difficult to see as it tends to disappear in the pattern, otherwise in excellent condition. $150
