Vintage Silk Kimono

We are hopelessly addicted to the feeling of soft things against bare skin - cashmere and silk being at the top of our list. And we can think of nothing more indulgent than lounging the morning away with an immense latte and a good read, in something as sinfully sumptuous as a vintage kimono. In a weighty silk crepe of medium Prussian blue, this kimono is intermittently embroidered with thin, delicate stripes of silver and bronze metallic threads. A traditional Japanese floral motif of plum blossoms, chrysanthemum, gingko and maple leaves is hand screened in off-white circles on the body and sleeves. Some of the flowers and leaves are subtly highlighted with delicate embroidery. The colors are soft and muted autumnal shades of rusty red, sagey green, apricot, black and white. The sleeves and top part are lined in a silk with a red-orange geometric floral pattern with a gold floral pattern embossed on an off-white background, while the rest of the inside is lined in the same blue silk as the exterior. If you don't like wearing it open, a long silk sash would make a good substitute for a traditional obi belt. The condition is very good, with a few faint dark spots on the sleeves, minor discoloration to the lining and a pinhole at the left shoulder seam. Even at that, it is still an exquisitely beautiful piece, and best on a modern size 4 to 6. Bust 35", hip 39" sleeves (center back to sleeve hem) 25", length 38". sold
