Vintage Silk Crepe Kimono |

We have a bad track record of vacations turning into 'trips from hell'. We could write a book about a couple of doosies, the most recent being a trip to Japan last year. Suffice it to say that 10 days trapped on a bus with no bathroom and a non-English speaking tour guide is a journey we definitely wish we'd skipped. Our solitary goal on that trip was to ferret out vintage kimonos and obis. We were mercifully dropped off the bus in Kyoto for a couple of hours, which wasn't near long enough, and managed to bag a few. But believe us when we tell you that we never saw anything half as beautiful as this vintage kimono, and if it were ours to keep, we would. In a sumptuous grey-beige silk crepe, this vintage kimono has a lovely traditional Japanese floral motif of large and small plum blossoms, clouds and bamboo leaves in soft shades of rust, gold, purple, gray and white. The kimono is lined primarily in ivory silk crepe de chine or 'china silk', with the bottom third lined in celery green silk, which also lines the upper sleeve where you put your arm through, and bright red silk trimming the inside of the pocket part of the sleeve, so you get flashes of red as you move your arms. Exquisitely beautiful, and in the best condition of any vintage kimono we've yet to lay hands upon. We found a couple of small, yellow spots, and we had to look hard and long for those. Best on a modern size 4 to 8, the bust measures 40", hip 42" sleeves (center back to sleeve hem) 25", length 56". $295
