1940s Rayon Hawaiian Hibiscus Print Pake Muu

The traditional Hawaiian Pake mu'u mu'u is a style that epitomizes the cultural blends of Hawaii - Japanese, Chinese, and of course Hawaiian.  A silky rayon in a gorgeous and vivid red and yellow hibiscus print with touches of gray on a pale beige background, the Chinese mandarin collar closes with an orange silk frog closure, with the same orange silk lining the dramatic Japanese kimono style butterfly sleeve.  The dress is long and fitted with princess seams, a metal zipper closure on the side, and a lightly padded shoulder. The hem has a split on each side and is trimmed in orange silk. Okay, now for the waa-waa-waa - looks like it must have been one helluva luau, 'cause this poor pake muu went home  wearing some of it. There is light overall staining; we found a couple of pinholes in the dress; the orange trim on the hem needs retacking; teeny bit of seam stress, and the bottom of keyhole collar  is frayed a bit at the apex,.  The photos below demonstrate the extent of the damage, but if you have specific questions, please ask. Still and all, pake muu's from the 'Forties are increasingly rare and highly collectible, and the print on this one is truly beautiful despite the flaws. A Hawaiian Togs Original. Bust 30", waist 25", hip 35", shoulder 13.5", length  50". $285
