If you've never had occasion to compare a vintage embellished garment with a modern one, you really have no idea of the vast difference between the two. Almost without exception, whether its a beaded blouse from the '40s, a sweater from the '50s, or a dress from the '60s, the quality of the vintage garment will leave the modern one, unless it happens to be a couture piece, in the dust. Aside from the fact that the quality of modern sequins and the technique used to sew them on is so poor that most dry cleaners won't touch them, sequined garments today are machine stitched in manner that tends to unravel an entire section of sequins if a single one comes loose. And not being hand sewn, they tend to be scantily placed. On a vintage garment, often the whole idea is to not be able to see the fabric that backs the sequins. As is the case with this beauty. Backed in a stretchy green wool knit, this baby is sequined with iridescent kelly green sequins to within an inch of it's life and it's gorgeous. A long, slim sheath, it hugs your curves, and has a vee cut neckline in front and even lower in back, and dainty little cap sleeves. The hem is finished with a diamond pattern of celadon and ivory sequins and bronze tube beads. There is a 16" slit at the left hem. The gown is unlined (get out that silk slip) with a back zipper closure. Flat unstretched measurements are: Bust 36", waist 27", hip 33", length 56". Excellent condition. $575
