We have a mighty thing for wearable art. Jewelry, woven textiles, hand screened fabrics - we love it all - maybe because we missed the make-it-and-wear-it-yourself hippie era by a decade (or two). That isn't to say that everything created by hand is a work of art, nor that all artisanal pieces are truly wearable. So when we find something that is both a work of art, and truly wearable, it is cause for celebration, and this ensemble definitely has us jumping for joy. This ensemble is by Japanese textile artist Reiko, and consists of a long nylon jersey sleeveless tank dress, and a bias cut silk chiffon caftan-styled over dress. Both pieces are tie dyed, the tank much more subtly than the chiffon caftan, so it has just splashes of white appearing like clouds, the color deepening from aqua to jade as you move toward the hemline. - while the caftan is dyed more vividly - jade and ivory, with the look of sea grass waving in the ocean. The sheer silk chiffon caftan is sleeveless on the right side, with a long draped cocoon sleeve on the left - quite exotic looking when worn. The simple split neckline has a tie at the throat, we've shown it untied and open. Flat, unstretched measurements on the tank dress are: Bust 32", waist 28", hip 36" and a length of 59". Caftan kind of floats over it. The styling of both pieces should accommodate a modern size 4 to 6. Aside from a couple of teeny, tiny pinholes in the chiffon, which are nearly undetectable, both pieces are in excellent condition. $375
