1940s Sophie Originals Black Crepe Dress

Sophie Gimbel had the distinction of being the first ever fashion designer on the cover of Time Magazine in 1947.  Sophie began her career as a designing woman in 1930 as the in-house designer for Saks Fifth Avenue's 'Salon Moderne' offering her recreations of Paris couture,  and later designing under the labels 'Sophie Originals' and 'Sophie of Saks' until her retirement in 1969. This black wool crepe dress has a low cut neckline, demurely tied at the throat. The dress is fitted through the waist with a heart shaped modified basque waistline and a side zipper closure. Sleeves are cuffed.  The dress is lined at the waist.  Bust 38", waist 29", hip 37", shoulder 16", sleeve 21", length 43". Bearing a Sophie Originals label, we found one tiny pinhole at the waist, however it is backed by the lining and not conspicuous, in otherwise excellent condition. $345
