After a stint as assistant to Hollywood costume designer Travis Banton, Pauline Trigère opened her own business in 1942 and, in an era dominated by male designers, became one of the top designers of the 20th century. The appeal of Trigère's designs continued for decades until her retirement in 1994 and even after her passing. In a black silk plisse with an ivory flower print, this dress is a great example of Trigère's feminine style. The bodice is delicately gathered through the front and back, with a modified empire waist that falls into a straight skirt with a box pleat at the front. The long sleeves have a banded cuff to turn back or not. The dress has a buttons from the neck to the waist in back, with a rear zipper in the skirt. Fully lined in a sheer silk organza. Bust measures 40", waist 34", hip 39", sleeve 24", shoulder 18.5", length 41". Excellent condition. $275
