Designer Ted Lapidus earned a degree in engineering in Tokyo before following the path of his tailor father and embarking on a career in fashion design in the early 1950s. Lapidus was a master of cut, applying his technical training to his art, creating clothing that was both classic and romantic. This diaphanous peasant style dress in silk chiffon, screened and woven in a gorgeous surreal marine print in shades of azure, golden amber and white, is a stunning example of Lapidus' work. An elasticized peasant neckline can be worn on or off the shoulder, sheer, billowing elbow length sleeves have an elasticized cuff, as does the waist of the gown. Closes in back with a zipper and a bar hook, and is lined (except for the sleeves) in white china silk. Bust 34", waist 27", hip to 40", sleeve 12", length 58". Excellent condition. $675
