1940s Joset Walker Pin Tucked Orange Crepe Dress

In the heyday of  Hollywood's  glamour years, many top costume designers, the likes of Howard Greer, Gilbert Adrian, and Norman Norell, made their name in film before establishing their successful careers in couture and ready-to-wear design. French born Joset Walker honed her craft, first in the 'Theatrical Department' at Saks Fifth Avenue, then as a costume designer in the 30's for RKO studios, dressing stars like Katherine Hepburn and Irene Dunne, before becoming a designer for dress manufacturer David Goodstein in 1940.  Done in a burnt-orange crepe, this dress is entirely pin tucked, creating amazing drape and movement in an otherwise simple and unfussy design. The tucks are topstitched in a contrasting goldenrod colored thread - highlighting the tucking.  Unlined, the dress closes with a side zipper and the scooped neckline and short sleeves are self bound. We are showing it with one of our belts (not included) so that you can see how the dress hangs belted and without. By Joset Walker for David Goodstein.  Bust measures 38", waist 27.5", hip 38", shoulder 15", sleeve 9" and length 47". A few faint freckles on the lower part of the skirt, otherwise in excellent condition. $285
