1960s Anne Fogarty Black Ribbon and Sequined Dress

During the 1950s Anne Fogarty was a major proponent of the principle of Complete Femininity, and an ideology of the "feminine mystique" which influenced many women to leave the work force and return to the home as perfect little Stepford wives and mothers in dresses with fitted bodices and full skirts. We're thinking that by the time the 60's rolled around, Anne had relaxed a little and her clothes displayed a silhouette that was less 'uptight'. We think this full length dress has a downright personality. A black stretchy and open crocheted sheath is woven with rows of narrow black grosgrain ribbon alternating with zig zag rows of  black sequins. It has a wide scooped neckline a short, pert raglan sleeve and an empire waistline accented with a black grosgrain ribbon tie belt.  The dress has a zippered closure in the back and is fully lined in black for opacity. Feminine but un-fastidious, this dress would be right at home anywhere from a gala in Los Angeles to a black tie dinner in New York. Made for the A.F. Boutique, the bust measures 36", empire waist 30", hip 40", sleeve 8", total length 63", it's in excellent condition. sold
