1970s Wool Sweater Dress with Fringed Sash

We can thank the stalwart middle class of the 1970s for today's standards of  'political correctness'.  After railing against the 'peace and love' philosophy espoused by the hippies of the 1960s, when the 1970s rolled around, the middle class suddenly embraced the hippies' preferences and developed an awareness for everything from the environment to social justice.  They also started digging the hippies' threads and began wearing natural fibers and quieter patterns in more muted, neutral colors.  It was the dawn of the back to nature trend, and the earthy, ethnic look was B-I-G. This sweater dress is knit in a  wool, acrylic and mohair blend, with an oversized zig-zag check (tan and mocha on the bodice, just mocha on the skirt) on black.  It has a variegated fringed sash belt with a zig-zag pattern in sand and mocha on one side, solid black on the other. The bodice has a ribbed placket with buttons running from the collar to an elasticized waist, and a full, slightly dropped sleeve with ribbed cuff. The dress could also be worn buttoned at the back, but we have enough trouble getting our clothes buttoned right when the buttons are where we can see them, so we're displaying it the way we'd  wear it.  Flat unstretched measurements are: Bust measures 38", waist 27", hip 40", shoulder 16", sleeve 25", length 45". We're thinking this could accommodate anywhere from a size 6 to a well proportioned size 10. The sash  (10" wide and 57" long with an additional 7" of fringe on either end)  could also be worn as a scarf, using a leather belt at the waist instead.  So many options to choose from with this one! Made in Italy, both pieces are in excellent condition.  $195
