Its hard for us to get excited about modern wedding gowns, but show us a vintage dress, and we start thinking about renewing our vows. The 1930s presented an interesting fashion dichotomy as Americans, reeling from the blow of the depression, looked to the glamour of Hollywood to bring some measure of relief from reality. Most people couldn't afford jack, but they'd fork over a hard-earned 25¢ to see rich, stylish movie stars in elaborate, expensive costumes on the big screen. In the movies, this was the kind of gown Jean Harlow or Ann Sheridan wore around the house. We think it would make an unforgettable wedding gown. Incredibly sumptuous ivory silk charmeuse is bias cut in a beautiful, figure enhancing drape. The neckline is a high draped cowl in front, dipping to a vee at the back of the neck where a row of covered buttons begins. The bodice is shirred across the collar bone then eased into a modified v-cut empire style waist, wide dolman sleeve tapers to a vee with a five button closure at the wrist. The workmanship on the gown is incredible - right down to the covered buttons. They are sewn like tiny round pillow covers - stitched in two separate pieces - amazing! The gown fits perfectly on our dress form with measurements of: Bust 36", under bust 32", waist 26", hip 36". The shoulder measures 13", sleeve measures 28.5" (37" from center back) to the longest point, total length in back (shoulder to hem) is 58"; (waist to hem) 40". The condition is excellent with the exception that the original belt was removed and left two small, faint marks, each about the size of a grain of millet, at the center front waist where the snaps were removed. The marks are hidden beneath the ivory satin ribbon we have tied at the waist, to replace the belt. We found one small water mark on the silk, otherwise the condition is excellent and the dress itself is amazing. sold
