1950s Ben Zuckerman Black Bengaline Coat

Being completely enamored with the mystique of  Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, when we had an opportunity to acquire some pieces from a woman who was an aide to JFK at the White House, we went gaga, as this was probably as close as we were ever going to get to Jackie. Judging by this woman's attire, she wore the best and Jackie's influence was clearly present. Here is utter feminine styling in a princess coat of silk and wool serge fabric. Typically princess seamed through the bodice and nipped in at the waist with three-quarter length sleeves and a three-button closure from the bust to the low waist.  The skirt of the coat flares from the hip and is pleated in the back for fullness to further emphasize the curvy, girly cut.  Exquisitely tailored details include inseam side pockets nestled in the folds of fabric at the hip, bound button holes and a black silk lining. Made by Ben Zuckerman, the coat also carries a Julius Garfinkle and Co. label.  Best on no larger than a solid modern size 4 or very slender 6, the bust measures 35", waist 24", hip 36", shoulder 15", sleeve 16.5", total length 39". sold
