1970s Geoffrey Beene Wool Clutch Coat

Geoffrey Beene has long been considered to be one of, if not the single most, prestigious American designer. A gracious Southern gentleman, Beene once said that "Fashion is my way of contributing to other human beings, of communicating with people, of making something better in their lives."  Beene designs with an eye to comfort and wearability, and his clothes tend to have simple, classic lines that are so easy to wear.  In a vivid rust colored wool gabardine, this clutch coat has that clean, straight cut that is so, well, Beene.  Open front styling without closures, the coat has a wide topstitched lapel, huge oversized patch pockets at the front hip, and a 20" long vent in back.  The sleeves are slim with a turned back cuff.  We're showing it both worn open as designed, and with one of our leather belts -  its fabulous either way.  Lined in bright rust acetate and in excellent condition.  Bust 35, waist 34", hip 38", shoulder 15", sleeve 21.5 with a 2" cuff, length 40.5". Best on no larger than a solid modern size 6. $445
